Challenges and Protection Efforts

Despite its natural beauty and ecological value, Al Makhrour Valley faces multiple threats that endanger its future and call for collective protection efforts.

Key Challenges:

  • Unregulated Urban Expansion: Unplanned construction is consuming parts of the valley’s green cover and disrupting its natural landscape.

  • Israeli Settlement Expansion: Ongoing efforts by the occupying authorities to expand settlements in the area pose a major threat to the valley’s integrity.

  • Environmental Violations: Illegal tree cutting, overgrazing, and pollution of soil and water from unsustainable human activities are causing harm to the ecosystem.

Protection Efforts:

The Municipality of Beit Jala, in partnership with local and international organizations, is working on several initiatives to safeguard the valley, including:

  • Raising Environmental Awareness through campaigns and educational workshops for locals and visitors.

  • Organizing Clean-Up and Reforestation Campaigns to preserve vegetation and biodiversity, with community involvement.

  • Developing Sustainable Management Plans focused on protecting trails, restoring agricultural terraces, and conserving water resources.

Protecting Al Makhrour Valley is a shared responsibility that requires commitment from individuals, communities, and authorities to ensure its survival for generations to come.
